HONOLULU -- Michelle Wie, 15, struggled Friday in the second round of the U.S. Women's Open. The Hawaii teen shot a 2-over-par 73, placing her at even par for the tournament.Her round put her in a tie for second place and in the final pairing for Saturday's round three.Wie tied for the lead after finishing the first round Friday morning because darkness forced officials to suspend play Thursday. She had three holes left to play and completed her round at 2-under par.
That score placed her in a tie for the lead with Angela Stanford, Karine Icher and Brittany Lang.

Wie then turned around to play in the second round of the tournament. She started play on the back nine. She bogeyed No. 10, her first hole of the round.She then had a string of nine pars before a bogey at No. 2. She got on another par train before another bogey at No. 8, which put her at 3-over for the round and 1-over for the tournament.Wie bounced back with a critical birdie at her last hole of the day, No. 9."Well, it was a little tough out there, the second round today. But I still felt like I hit very good shots into the greens. I was very patient out there," Wie said.Her putting proved her nemisis again. On Thursday, she had 28 putts. In round two, she had 31 putts.Wie said she is confident in her game and in her ability to win the tournament."I feel like I am ready. I feel like I am playing well enough and as long as I make a couple more putts, play a little bit more consistently, if I play under par, I think I have a good chance," she said.
Wie will play with second-round leader Nicole Perrot, 21. Perrot shot a second straight 1-under 70. Wie is tied at second with Lorena Ochoa.The world's No. 1 player, Annika Sorenstam, ended her round with a stumble. She bogeyed her final three holes to put her at 4-over-par for the tournament, six shots behind the leader.Sorenstam is looking to do what no professional has done yet, capture the modern grand slam. She won the first two majors of the year so far.An amateur has not won the U.S. Women's Open since 1967, when Catherine Lacoste claimed the title.
