Copper Thieves Steal From Oahu Cemetery

UPDATED: 7:50 am HST March 9, 2007

Copper thieves raided an Oahu graveyard and took 70 feet of piping on Thursday morning, officials said.

The three-quarter inch copper piping used in water lines was stolen from the City Memorial Park Cemetery in Nuuanu.

"In this case thieves stole about probably $20 at a recycling business. That's not much money, but the replacement costs and the fact that a thief would do this is unbelievable," police Maj. Kurt Kendro said.

Police asked the community to report any suspicious activity in the area.
